Following increasing desire and calls by Tornadoes fans for the team to return to its traditional ground in Minna, Niger state government has boosted renovation of the Bako Kontagora Stadium with the release of N7million to the contractor handling the project.
State commissioner for Youths and sports Hon Mamman Musa said the renovation has become a priority revealing that his office has become inundated by calls from the fans to bring back the team that has been using Lokoja as home ground for some time now.
“Growing calls for Tornadoes to return home have become worrisome and it is important we put back the venue in shape to ginger the supporters and the team as well,” he said.
He disclosed that the contract sum has been pegged at N31million even as he challenged the contractor to deliver within record time and resist the temptation to do sub standard job.
The first phase of the contract, according to the commissioner, will include expansion of the dressing room, re -grassing of the field and the VIP pavilion as required by the league management company.
